Principal Herring's Page
Greetings and welcome to ms366.org! This year, we will continue to develop our school website so that it becomes a reliable resource for students and parents. This includes announcements, monthly calendars, noteworthy points of information, reporting absences and communicating with staff members. There are so many new and exciting happenings at SMMS 366. Some of them are as follows:
- We adopted two new uniform polo colors: royal blue and black. 6th graders wear royal blue polos and eighth graders wear black polos. Grade 7 students will continue to wear the traditional light blue polo. Students will wear the same color shirt for all three years that they attend our school.
- We're about to start preparing students to once again participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Shout out to our finalists from last year.
- We are continuing our partnership with Music and the Brain, which is foundational general music method with a 27-year track record integrating piano learning as an entry point to developing musicianship, critical thinking and essential life skills.
- Our new English Language Arts curriculum is Great Minds Wit & Wisdom. The grade 6 curriculum covers resilience in The Great Depression, a hero's journey, narrating the unknown and courage in crisis. The grade 7 modules are "Identity in the Middle Ages, Americans All, Language and Power and Fever." The modules of grade 8 are "The Poetics and Power of Storytelling, The Great War, What is Love? and Teens as Change Agents."
- Debate Team news: SMMS 366 will participate in this year's American Debate Team competition.
- There will be five marking periods this year as opposed to three. That means there will be five report cards. This gives students better opportunities to reflect upon their progress, collaborate with teachers and achieve the best final course marks possible.
- All report cards will be published via your NYCSA accounts. Please email our parent coordinator Ms. Pamella Ferrari-Easter for assistance with accessing your account.
- Our new grade 6 mathematics curriculum is iReady Mathematics Classroom.
- This fall, we are hosting several local elementary schools for an immersive middle school experience.
We are dedicated to aligning our school vision and day-to-day practice with those of the new chancellor and District 18. Please continue to reach out to your child's teachers via the staff email function on this site. You are encouraged to attend our monthly PTA Zoom meetings and join us in person for parent workshops. Thank you for your continued partnership!
