English Language Arts

At SMMS 366, the English Language Arts curriculum consists of a combination of rich texts from the Into Literature anthology, previous New York State Examination reading passages and grade level novels. In addition to the Pearson anthology excerpts, grade 6 students read Wonder by R. J. Palacio and Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick. Grade 7 students read Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikaelsen. Grade 8 students read We Beat the Street: How a Friendship Pact Led to Success by Sampson Davis, George Jenkins, Rameck Hunt and Sharon Draper.
